Living in the Mount Maunganui/Tauranga region of the beautiful Bay of Plenty offers us countless amounts of activities. Our Top 5 places to visit are walking tracks that offer amazing views and tranquillity. A stunning place to have a picnic or even just stop and reflect on our busy lives.

My Top 5

  1. Base track, Mount Maunganui. Walking just over 3km around Mauao can be so revitalising. From the powerful South Pacific Ocean at your feet to the innocent sunbathing seals, this walk cannot be missed.

  2. Minden Stairs, Te Puna. A flight of around 300 stairs takes you to a quiet grass area with views of Matakana Island and Mauao.
A tough climb but its short and very rewarding.

  3. Leisure island (Moturiki), Mount Maunganui. A short walk but long enough to get your blood pumping and with many different things to see. We once spotted Orca's from this island, so it’s made our Top 5 list!

  4. Papamoa Hills, Papamoa. The top of Papamoa hills takes you to over 220m above sea level! The longest hike on our list but definitely worth it. The views can cover Mount Maunganui all the way to Maketu. Awesome!

  5. Summit track, Mount Maunganui. The Climb to the top can be a challenge to most but I can guarantee you, it is worth it every single time. The views are breath taking and make you wonder why we go on holiday in the first place! The feeling before, during and after the climb is something that cannot be described. The sense of accomplishment, the rewarding views... Almost life changing in fact! Our #1 walking track.
